Number One Son
This is one of my most successful Summer patterns on the Welsh Dee. It borrows heavily from the clyde-style Hen Blackie, but tied less sparsely. In this photograph, the hackle is a little too long for my liking.
I fish it on the point on a size 16 O'Shaugnessy 1XH, 1XW hook with a length of tungsten lace tied flat on top of the shank.
Body: Waxed yellow silk with a hint of mole dubbing;
Wings: Secondary starling feather, lighter part on the outside set at 45 degrees;
Hackle: Black, in front of wing.
