Unanswered fly fishing questions?

Do you have questions that you have never had satisfactory answers to? Here are my current ones.

1    Fishing wets and spiders across and down a river is very successful at catching lots of juvenile trout and salmon parr. Fishing the same patterns up-stream deceives larger trout. Why?

2   Dapping a natural mayfly or daddy on an Irish Lough requires you to lower the rod in order to allow the trout to turn on the fly. This does not work as well when dapping imitations, where a conventional strike is better. Why?

3   Dark flies seem to be better on overcast days compared to lighter coloured flies, all other things being equal. Why?
